| Win Rockefeller, son of the late Governor Winthrop Rockefeller
and grandson of the late John D. Rockefeller, Jr., was born in September
1948. He attended Pembroke College at the University of Oxford and is a
graduate of the ranch management program at Texas Christian University. Rockefeller
is the father of eight children. He and his wife, Lisenne, maintain
homes at Winrock Farms, in Conway County, and in
Little
Rock.
Rockefeller was elected lieutenant governor of Arkansas in November
1996 in a special election when Mike
Huckabee assumed the office of governor after Governor
Jim Guy Tucker’s resignation on July 15, 1996. Rockefeller was
elected for a full four-year term in November 1998 after receiving
67% of the votes cast.
As Arkansas' lieutenant governor, Rockefeller
serves as the president of the Arkansas
Senate and as a goodwill ambassador for Arkansas across the
state and nation. He champions the issues of economic development
and education. In 1997, he created Books in the Attic, a program using existing resources and
volunteers to ensure access to reading opportunities for all children.
Long before his election to public office, Rockefeller has been active
in public service. He is the immediate past president of the Quapaw
Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and currently serves on the Boy Scouts
National Board of Directors. He served from 1981-1995 on the Arkansas
State Police Commission. In 1991, he was appointed by President
George Bush to serve on the President’s Council on Rural America
and was elected chairman. He has served on numerous boards, including
the Arkansas Nature Conservancy, the Arkansas
Cancer Research Center, and the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation.
He is the founder and chairman of the board of the International
Billfish
Conservation Foundation.
In addition to his public service, Rockefeller serves as chief executive
of Winrock
Farms, Inc. and has interests in various small businesses
around the state in the areas of retailing, automobiles, farming and
the resort industry. He is an active member of the National Federation of Independent Business. |
